The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Text
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a children's classic written by CS Lewis not long after World War 2. The book focuses in on four children -- Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy -- and their experiences in the Wardrobe -- the Entrance into Narnia. Narnia is a Secondary World where many things can happen.
I like the piece because the narrator and The Professor both talk about the concept of The Story as something
believeable. Yes, unusual -- even strange -- things happen in the first chapter, things that could
never happen in the Primary World -- that is, Reality. The thing is, though, Lewis makes those events
believeable.
I like the piece, too, because of the wardrobe. It can serve a variety of functions:
An Entrance into a Secondary World -- Imaginary World
A Window to Reality -- a spectator watching a scene
A Lens to Reality -- in other words, seeing / experiencing Reality in a deeper, sharper focus
And, so, our Quest begins ... each lit review class will be another adventure into The Wardrobe ...
