"It was a dark and stormy night." What a beginning! Many times, when authors use weather -- rain, thunder, lightning -- it typically means to pay attention to what is going on.
A Wrinkle in Time is about Meg Murray and her adventures as a young teen-ager. She is awkward, a mis-fit; indeed, she hardly fits in anywhere. She is the oldest of 4 children. Her parents are super-smart. Her youngest brother is Charles Wallace, and he is a genius at age 4 or 5. The twins, Denys and Sandy, serve as foils (a character who is the opposite of the main or major character in order to bring out certain qualities of the main or major character) to Meg and Charles Wallace.
The first chapter introduces the reader to the Murray family, Cal, the dog, and the first of three special characters -- Mrs. Whatsit -- 10 guesses as to what she really is.
