Anne of Green Gables Chapter 15
This is the fictional story of the character Anne Shirley. Anne is from Canada -- Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, all real places. Anne of Green Gables is an example of a Bildungsroman, which details the growing up of a particular individual. It covers major events in the person's life.
Anne is an orphan, which makes her unique. She is 12 years old when the story starts. Matthew Cuthburt and Marilla Cuthburt (brother and sister) want to adopt a boy to work on their farm in Avonlea -- not a real place. They live in a really nice house called Green Gables -- not real either.
Anne being a girl causes numerous problems at first for the Cuthburts. Initially, they try to send her back but have second thoughts. The Cuthburts take Anne on a trial basis. Even though Anne can't work on the farm as the Cuthburts wanted, Anne makes numerous inroads with the people of Avonlea, finding new friends -- and one enemy!
Anne meets Diana Berry, the next-door neighbor who is about Anne's age. They quickly become "kindred spirits."
Anne seems to get herself into many "scrapes," that is, trouble. She always seems to get herself out of them.
Chapter 15 takes up when Marilla sends Anne to the Avonlea school.
